The Openbare Bibliotheek in Amsterdam is the largest public library in Europe – with 200 staff members, 28,000 sq m, 7 floors, millions of books, escalators, two restaurants, wireless Internet, and 7,000 visitors daily. In this bustling environment I searched for the most abandoned, secluded place: a bookshelf of encyclopedias. After preparations to turn a book into a self-watering garden, the book was placed between the other books. Over a two-week period, a little secret garden sprouted on top of the book, and then died.
